About the Authors
Jesse Dukeminier
Jesse Dukeminier is the late Maxwell Professor of Law at UCLA Law School. A professor of law at UCLA for over 40 years, Jesse Dukeminier was renowned for his contributions to the field of property law. His casebooks on property and wills, trusts and estates are among the most widely-used in the country in their fields. For four decades, Dukeminier was widely respected by students and was honored twice as professor of the year by the UCLA School of Law's graduating classes. Dukeminier received a Lifetime Achievement Award in Teaching and became the first UCLA Law faculty member to receive a University Distinguished Teaching Award. He also received the School of Law's Rutter Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dukeminier was born in West Point, Mississippi and studied at Harvard University, receiving his bachelor's degree in 1948. He received his law degree from Yale in 1951 and practiced law with a Wall Street firm. Dukeminier joined UCLA in 1963. He also taught at the University of Kentucky, and he visited at Harvard and the University of Chicago.
Robert H. Sitkoff
Robert H. Sitkoff is the John L. Gray Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, where he is the youngest chaired professor with tenure in the school's history. Prior to joining Harvard, Sitkoff taught at New York University School of Law and at Northwestern University School of Law, and he received distinguished teaching awards in 2001, 2002, and 2007. Sitkoff’s primary research focus is economic and empirical analysis of the law of trusts and estates. His work has been published in leading scholarly journals such as the Yale Law Journal, the Columbia Law Review, and the Journal of Law and Economics. Sitkoff serves under gubernatorial appointment on the Uniform Law Commission, and he is a member of the Joint Editorial Board for Uniform Trusts and Estates Acts. A member of the American Law Institute, Sitkoff participates in the Members Consultative Groups for the Restatement (Third) of Trusts and Restatement (Third) of Property: Wills and Other Donative Transfers. Sitkoff is the editor of the Wills, Trusts, and Estates abstracting journal in the Social Science Research Network and is a past Chair of the Section on Trusts and Estates of the Association of American Law Schools. Prior to joining the legal academy, Sitkoff was a law clerk to Chief Judge Richard A. Posner of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
James Lindgren
James Lindgren is Professor of Law at Northwestern University and a leading scholar in the growing movement of New Legal Empiricists. Many of his current projects examine the roles that viewpoint diversity plays in American society. He is an influential scholar in the area of trusts and estates. He has also done important scholarship in legal education, law reviews, and criminal law. He is a cofounder of the Section on Scholarship of the Association of American Law Schools and a former chair of its Section on Social Science and the Law.
